How I own my autoimmune disease…
I remember wondering if I “own” my autoimmune disease,
what that means,
and what “owning” my autoimmune disease looks like for me.
I decided that yes, I own my autoimmune disease…
I own it every time I choose to eat nutritious, healing foods.
I own it every time I go to bed early instead of staying up late.
I own it when I take time to meditate and destress.
I own it when I choose to move my body even when I don’t feel like it.
I own it when I celebrate every little victory instead of comparing myself to the woman I used to be.
I own it when I allow myself to be vulnerable and share my story.
I own it every time I have to cancel plans because my body needs rest.
I own it when I care more about taking care of my body than what others think of the choices I make.
I own it when I look into my children’s eyes and do everything I can to take care of myself so I can be the best Mom I can be.
I own it when my husband and I have difficult conversations as we adjust to our lives with my chronic illness.
I own it every time I allow myself to feel the pain, heartbreak, and grief associated with my autoimmune disease.
I own it when I let myself ugly cry in my closet on the floor.
I own it when I dry my tears, and choose to smile and find joy.
I own it when I choose to find gratitude and let go of bitterness.
I own it every time I let out a snort filled belly laugh even on my darkest days.
I own it when I get down on my knees and pray for strength beyond my own.
I own it when I let go of my will, and trust in His.
And so much more.
Do you own your autoimmune disease?
What does owning it look like to you?
If you are struggling to own yours, please know you are not alone.
It’s not easy.
It’s so stinking hard.
But it’s also so stinking worth it.
I am sending you so much love and support.
